Well, the guys in the wedding are going to look quite handsome!  Yesterday Pete and Raf went to Fischer’s Tuxedos to get fitted for their tuxes and so we could pick out their vests.  They’re going to look so good!!!

Our first dance September 9, 2008

The last few days I’ve taken a break from the wedding planning.  By the end of last week I was pretty wound up about the wedding – stressing about the details, having wedding nightmares (yep, actual bad dreams), etc.  Totally a problem of my own making, I know.  Anyway, I kind of decided to take a few days off from thinking about the wedding.  Pete, on the other hand, has been powering through the “to do” list!  Now I’m back on track and ready to start thinking about it again.  Our focus right now is on music, both for the ceremony and for the reception.  Pete’s mom did a great job trolling the web for classical music that might work for the ceremony. It’s soooo nice to have a place to start the decision-making process!  For the reception, our friend Serge, who did the music for Jenny & Dennis’ wedding last year, was kind enough to send us the full play list.  I’m not an audiophile by any stretch so I have a hard time putting into words the music I like.  It’s great to have Serge’s work to start from because he did a great job for J & D’s wedding!

The one thing we have nailed down music-wise is our first dance.  We decided on Allison Krauss and Union Station’s ”When You Say Nothing At All.”  You can listen to it here.  I’ve always enjoyed that song.  Plus, one of the things that drew Pete to my E-Harmony profile was my smile in the photo that I’d posted so the references to “the smile on your face” seem very fitting.  Our plan for the first dance is to start with just us for a little bit and to then invite all married (or civil union-ed) couples to join us.  What better way for us to start our marriage than to be surrounded by others who’ve made the same commitment already??

Last Thursday we met with our photographer for one last meeting before the big day.  On Thursday (which is 1 month to the day before the wedding – wow!) we’ll be meeting with the officiant for a walk-through.  This weekend I’m going to have an appointment with the person that will be doing my make-up, while Pete and Raf go get fitted for their tuxes.

32 days to go!!!

38 days to go September 3, 2008

Here we are – just 38 days to go.  Holy cow!!  How does that happen?!?!  In good news, we got the programs done last weekend.  Little by little we’re checking off the little details – getting last appointments set up with the photographer and officiant, confirming that the hotel has rooms set, sketching out the itinerary for the days leading up to the ceremony, etc.  We had a little problem with our flower growers but I think we have that sorted out.  On Saturday I had the last dress fitting.  My mom and Matt were in town for Girls Night Out and they went with me.  It was nice to have them there.  The woman who did the alterations did a fantastic job; I’m really, really pleased with the way it came out, especially the bustling.  On to the next set of details…  :-)

Girls Night Out, originally uploaded by heatheracarter.

I think the title of this post says it all. This weekend my mom, 5 friends, and I had a FANTASTIC time at Girls Night Out!  One friend was from elementary school, 1 from college, and 3 from grad school.  Yes, that is a man you see in the photo.  That would be my “honorary girlfriend,” Matt.  :-)   The title of this post really says it all. There was spectacular food (and drink!), belly dancing, a rousing game of 99, a sleepover, lingerie, and an amazing breakfast out on the porch on a cool and crisp morning. Best of all, there were laughs – lots and lots of laughs.  I’m a really lucky woman to have such wonderful friends!
