Today’s the day! October 11, 2008

It’s hard to believe that the day is finally here!  Almost 22 months after we got engaged, Pete and I are getting married today.  The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of details, phone calls, and last meetings with the vendors and officiant, not to mention getting things wrapped up at work so we can be away for two weeks.  All that’s behind us now and here we are!  The rehearsal went well last night.  We got a bunch of little details worked out.  In the middle of it, I was thinking “oh THIS is why people always have rehearsals!”  We were working out details that I didn’t even think about  – where are the people giving readings going to sit, how are we going to know when to walk down the isle, etc.  We then went to dinner at the Bethlehem Brew Works and it was so much fun!

And now here I am – awake at 6:00 a.m. starting to get ready for the day.  I actually started waking up a couple of hours ago but decided just to hang out in the quiet for a while.  I was able to doze on and off a bit more, which is good.  Since I’m sleeping in a room with a computer, though, I figured I’d avail myself of it once I just couldn’t go back to sleep anymore.  Not nerves (yet), mostly just excitement.  I’m confident that the nerves will come on with a vengance later today!  :-)

Because the last few weeks have been so frantically busy, I haven’t had quite as much time to stop and think about the momentous thing we’re doing today.  Marrying Pete is the best decision I’ve made in my life, I do believe.  I’m not nervous at all about the marriage itself (although I do have to confess that I had a little of that a few weeks ago).  Now, I’m just mostly looking forward to seeing him today at the end of the aisle.  Some traditions we’re following and some we’re not.  One that I feel really strongly about is not seeing him today until we’re at the meetinghouse.  I want his first vision of me today to be appearing in the doorway of the meetinghouse in my dress.  And I want my first vision of him to be at the end of the aisle waiting for me to join him.  I imagine a facial expression of joy, anticipation, and nerves… I wonder what he’ll really look like.  I missed not curling up with him last night but I think that’ll make seeing him today even better.

Well, I guess it’s time to get today rolling… I’m going to go for a walk this morning with Mom and Jenny just to clear my head and move my legs a little.  Mid-morning we’re going to head into Quakertown to get my hair and makeup done.  Then we’ll come back to Tat’s house to get ready and take a few pictures before heading to the meetinghouse at 3.  Pete’s arriving at the meetinghouse at 2:30 to take care of the last minute details, to greet the officiant, etc.  After we’re back from the honeymoon, I’ll post a link here with some of the photos from the wedding.  Stay tuned!!
